Bangladesh’s Rapid Action Battalion or RAB — RAB is an elite anti-crime and anti-terrorism unit of the Bangladesh Police — had on Thursday (16 September) arrested the CEO of the controversial e-commerce entity Evaly, Mohammad Rassel and his wife Shamima Nasrin, who is also the Chairperson of the e-commerce entity, on charges of embezzlement.
According to media reports, personnel of the Bangladesh Police’s elite anti-crime and anti-terrorism unit raided the Evaly CEO’s residence at Dhaka’s Mohammadpur around 3:45 pm and left an hour and a half later with Mohammad Rassel and his wife Shamima Nasrin.
The arrest of the CEO and Chairperson of Evaly has in the meanwhile given rise to apprehensions amongst its suppliers and customers as to who would pay back their dues even as around 40-50 suppliers and customers of Evaly gathered in front of Mohammad Rassel’s residence on getting to know about their arrest.
Meanwhile speaking to the media, an aggrieved customer named Mahmud Hasan, who had ordered a car from the e-commerce firm around six months ago but was yet to get the same, maintained, “…Evaly owes me Taka 23 lakh; now that the top officials of Evaly are arrested, how will I get back the money?”
