A group of weavers and embroidery unit owners in Surat, Gujarat, India staged protest over non-payment of subsidy amount Under Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (TUFS) when Union Minister of State for Textiles Ajay Tamta visited the city on Sunday.
Tamta arrived here to take part in the nation-wide launch of the package for powerloom sector under Power Tex India Scheme of Government of India. The Scheme was launched by India’s Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani from Bhiwandi through video conferencing.
The agitating weavers were asking textile ministry to initiate steps for immediate release of the subsidy amount due to more than 500 weavers. According to the weavers, over Rs. 150 crore worth of subsidy amount is yet to be released from the last two years. The Minister assured that his Department will certainly look into the issue and try to release the subsidy amount as soon as possible.

“We can have a one-to-one discussion on this. The Ministry is committed to resolving the subsidy issue at the earliest,” Tamta was quoted as saying by an English daily.
