The Government has appointed Nargis Murshida, a joint secretary at the Ministry of Commerce, as the administrator of the Bangladesh China Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCCI), tasking her with overseeing a fair election for its board within the next 120 days.
Murshida officially assumed her duties at the BCCCI on Saturday, following an order issued by the ministry on 16th March. According to a press release, she has been directed to facilitate a transparent electoral process and subsequently hand over leadership to the newly elected committee.
The BCCCI, a key platform fostering trade and investment ties between Bangladesh and China, plays a crucial role in strengthening bilateral business relations. It supports industries, including the ready-made garment (RMG) sector, which heavily relies on China for raw materials such as textiles, dyes, and machinery. Given Bangladesh’s growing trade dependency on China, the chamber’s leadership is pivotal in shaping policies that impact garment exports, supply chain efficiency, and foreign direct investment (FDI) in the apparel industry.
Nargis Murshida brings extensive experience in trade policy, commerce, and business facilitation, having worked on various Government initiatives to enhance industrial growth and foreign trade relations.
