
In a significant boost for Bangladesh’s garment industry, Safety Garments Bangladesh Co Ltd, a Chinese firm, has announced a US $ 12.25 million investment in the Mongla Export Processing Zone (Mongla EPZ). The investment aims to establish a state-of-the-art garments manufacturing facility that will produce a range of safety apparel, including reflective jackets, vests, T-shirts, fleece jackets, coveralls, and safety helmets.
The investment is expected to create approximately 1,616 job opportunities for local Bangladeshi nationals. The Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) formalised the agreement with Safety Garments Bangladesh Co Ltd on 17th March at a signing ceremony held at the BEPZA Complex in Dhaka.
The ceremony was attended by BEPZA Executive Chairman Major General Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman, who expressed gratitude to Safety Garments for selecting Bangladesh and specifically Mongla EPZ for their investment. He emphasized BEPZA’s commitment to fostering a secure and supportive environment for investors and underscored the importance of prioritizing environmental protection during the company’s operations within the EPZ.
Also present at the event were senior BEPZA officials, including Member (Finance) A N M Foyzul Haque, Executive Director (Investment Promotion) Md Tanvir Hossain, and Executive Director (Admin) Md Tazim-Ur-Rahman, along with representatives from Safety Garments Bangladesh Co Ltd.
