
Due to the nationwide transport blockade in Bangladesh, the raw material supply lines to manufacturing units have been completely severed. The manufacturing units have already utilized the inventory and now have to wait for the imports that are to be delivered at Dhaka and Chittagong port, thereby brining down the productivity of garment manufacturing facilities considerably.
Kazi Akram Uddin, President Ahmed of FBCCI, said, “If there is any legal provision to stop such programmes, such measures will be taken. The legal angle is being examined.” Shahidullah Azim, Vice President of BGMEA, said, “The post-Christmas orders for the garment sector are due to come in now, but the orders may fall due to the political crisis. Many of the clients are asking us to go to Hong Kong or Thailand, rather than them coming here.”
