The Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (Bepza) has announced that Chinese company KMK Industrial Ltd will invest US $ 18.6 million to establish operations within the Bepza Economic Zone. The investment is expected to generate employment for approximately 1,231 Bangladeshi workers.
This development marks a significant milestone for Bepza, as it will be the first-ever manufacturer of airplane amenity bags and kits to establish a presence in the zone. The move is seen as a strategic step toward diversifying Bangladesh’s industrial portfolio.
The agreement between Bepza and KMK Industrial was signed on 14th September. Initially, the company will focus on manufacturing airplane amenity bags, with plans to expand its product range to include socks, garments, accessories, cosmetics, and select electronic items such as headphones and USB cables.
At the signing ceremony, Bepza Executive Chairman Major General Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman highlighted the importance of the project, stating, “This project represents a milestone in our continuous effort to diversify export-oriented industries.” He also emphasized the importance of encouraging local sourcing and in-house production to bolster both industry growth and the national economy.
The investment underscores Bangladesh’s ongoing efforts to attract diverse industries and enhance its position as a manufacturing hub in the region.
