The Directorate of National Consumers Right Protection (DNCRP) in Bangladesh has recently issued a notice to the controversial e-commerce platform Evaly, urging prompt resolution of consumer complaints.
In a letter addressed to Evaly CEO Mohammad Rassel, the DNCRP also set a seven-day deadline for the platform to provide details on how the outstanding complaints will be addressed.
Since its launch on 16th December 2018, Evaly has faced criticism for failing to deliver products despite receiving significant advance payments and neglecting to compensate merchants.
An audit revealed a lack of documentation, complicating the process of reimbursing creditors.
Evaly’s founders, Mohammad Rassel and Shamima Nasrin, were arrested in September 2021 on embezzlement charges.
Although Nasrin was released in April, Rassel obtained bail on 18th December.
The DNCRP reports approximately 6,500 unresolved complaints against Evaly, emphasising the need for prioritising customer repayments as the platform resumes operations.
