Japan-based Teijin Frontier, a Teijin Group’s fibre products converting company, will soon – as early as 2018 – build a US $ 18 million factory in Vietnam for manufacturing air bag fabric as several emerging economies mandate the safety feature in automobiles.
After China, this will mark the company’s second production site for air bag fabrics outside Japan. The fabric will be made using nylon fibres.

The company is targeting up to 60 billion yen in sales from automotive fabric operations by 2020. It also looks to gain from the bilateral Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Vietnam and the European Union, which could come into effect in 2018. In this case, the new factory would serve as a point of departure for Europe-bound air bag fabric.
