YKZ Zip Fasteners is a quality-driven company from Kolkata producing nylon (CFC), plastic (VISLON) and metal (both brass and aluminium) zippers from light to heavy duty. The nylon zippers (CFC) is a special type of coil zipper which is Azo and nickel free and is available in many colours with gold and silver, having colour fastness better than 4.
“The response that we have received from the market gives us the confidence to project a turnover of Rs. 100 crore by the year 2015,” shares Sudip Mukherjee, Managing Director, YKZ Zip Fasteners. Presently 40% of the production is being exported to European, Asian and Middle East countries. Some of their local market customers include Rupa, Lux, Dollar, etc.
Emphasizing on quality, the focus is on producing zero defect zippers. While some tests like Cross Wise, RFO (Reverse Fold Over), Life Testing, FO (False Open) and FC (False Closed) are mandatory, the Colour Matching and Colour Bleeding tests are optional.
The zipper is more useful for apparel, luggage and bags, basically where flexibility and good bending are required. “In zippers for apparels, we have a wide range of colours and finishes like metallic, silver, antique gold finish, bi-colour finish and transparent zippers. Special treatment is also given so that the zippers remain flat while attaching to the garment,” adds Sudip.
For metal zippers, which are mainly used in jeans, luggage, etc. where washing conditions are severe and the product is exposed to heat and handling is rough, the finishes available is brass, aluminium and bronze, with and without nickel finish. Metal zippers are also made with Y-type brass wire with composition of 65% or 85% copper, which are very popular with garment exporters.
The company, besides zippers, also supplies sliders and pullers and is looking for expansion by beginning work in additional 25,000 sq. feet floor space for a monofilament plant.
