As the Indian apparel industry tries to reduce its manufacturing cost and increase profitability, producing better, faster and achieving serious savings on fabric has become the target for the manufacturers today. Although, machine upgradation, operator training and overall management supplemented by a motivated operator play a vital role, fabric is the single most important factor by which a manufacturer can control cost.
Lectra, manufacturer of CAD/CAM solutions and related services dedicated to the apparel industry, recently organized a seminar in Delhi on “Optimizing Cutting Room and CAD Room processes in Apparel Industry for better Productivity & Profitability”. This seminar was the last in a series of 4 shows organized by the company in Chennai, Bangalore and Tirupur other than Delhi. Harvey Tseng, Principal Consultant, Lectra Asia, was the key presenter at the event.
The focus of the presentation was on how to bring about changes in the management and the process to increase productivity and efficiency in order to make more profits. Also discussed was Lectra’s popular Optiplan, a unique cut-order planning and optimization solution to simulate costs and to plan for new production cycles. “The message that we want to send is that proper planning is the key. There are standard problems faced by every manually operated cutting room. A manufacturer needs to plan in advance the consumption of the raw materials, especially fabric, prior to purchasing the same,” observed Anurag Ashok, MD, Magnum Solutions, Indian representative of Lectra.
Talking about the future plans for the company in India, K Vasudev, Marketing Manager for Lectra India highlighted, “India is fast becoming one of our key focus markets. We have over 300 customers here, and this is the reason why we recently opened our subsidiary in Bangalore. In addition, we will continue our association with Magnum Solutions and impart more advanced training to their technical staff.” Some of the companies that came to the seminar at Delhi included Pee Empro, JPC, MM Exports, Neetee Clothing and Arkay Enterprise.
Prior to the event, StitchWorld held a one-to-one discussion with Harvey Tseng to understand the advantages of running an Automised cutting room.
