Across many factories in Bangladesh, Iran, Cambodia, Indonesia and India, millions of people spend their days manufacturing garments for consumers around the world. For the workers in these manufacturing factories, the most important piece of equipment is their sewing machine. Among the many brands, Jack has the largest number of sales in these core countries. “Manufacturing giants in Bangladesh like Standard Group, Nassa Group and Pioneer Group use nearly 5,000 Jack machines each. Among all Chinese sewing machine brands, Jack is on top as we are a symbol of tested quality, producing more than one million machine sets every year,” says A. Muntaqim, Managing Director, Jack Bangladesh Ltd. The company has strengthened its roots in the domestic market and strongly believes in grabbing the export market too this year.
The RMG sector in Bangladesh has experienced an exponential growth since its inception in 1980s. RMG business has been so good that the manufacturers in the country are commissioning huge units with row after row of sewing machines. It seems that apparel manufacturers are now having a clear understanding on how to provide low-cost garments with best of the quality while tackling barriers such as electricity shortage issue. Muntaqim explains, “Actually the countries like Bangladesh and India have been facing electricity shortage issue for years. The factory owners here used to buy sewing machines equipped with clutch motor some years back. But now the trend has gradually shifted towards servo motor sewing machines and that’s the area Jack is leading in. We are successful in the market because we are providing energy-saving sewing machines that save more than 70 per cent of the electricity helping Bangladesh overcome the electricity shortage challenge in factories.”
Jack Bangladesh Ltd., engaged in industrial sewing machine business with Jack brand from China, deals in machines that include automatic, energy saving as well as labour saving machinery. The company sold machines worth US $ 50 million in 2016, most of which came from the domestic market. In 2017, the company is eyeing around 40 per cent growth over the previous year. “In the domestic market, we have touched 90 per cent of market share and our next prime target is keeping pace with domestic as well as export markets. As automation is strongly gaining momentum, export-oriented apparel manufacturers seek UBT machines. In UBT machines segment, Jack is providing much better quality with controlled prices than other renowned brands in the market,” claims Muntaqim.

Being one of the most successful players in sewing machines segment, Jack Bangladesh Ltd. also encourages the factory technicians to use the machines with proper care and for this, the company organizes technical training programmes every month for dealers and factories with emphasis on solving various machine problems vigilantly. Understanding the significance and value addition of noteworthy after-sale service, the company provides services from Chittagong too despite having the main office at Dhaka location.
“We have a strong team of more than 30 technicians including two Chinese engineers in Bangladesh. And I believe we are stronger than Juki as far as after-sale service is concerned. Depending upon traffic situations, we send our technical person in a maximum of 12 hours if we get any service requirements from any of our clients. This is the reason we have a trust factor among our end-users, hence with the grace of this trust, our sales is increasing day by day in Bangladesh,” concludes Jane, Vice Country Manager, Jack Sewing Machine Co. Ltd.
