After witnessing a sluggish 2016, industry players are of the view that the garment industry of Vietnam is seeing good order booking for the current year which shows that the country is emerging stronger despite tough market conditions…
Trinh Hoang Anh (Andy), Deputy General Director, Camle JSC exclusively told Apparel Resources at the recently concluded SaigonTex 2017 edition: “Despite economic slowdown last year, Vietnam has emerged strongly in 2017. We have been receiving orders again and Vietnam is surging ahead than countries like Bangladesh, Myanmar, Indonesia and Cambodia. I would say the first quarter of 2017 was excellent.” He also opined that the country’s competence to give better quality in less time gives Vietnam an edge over many other countries.
Echoing the same sentiments, Shantanu Dey, CEO, Premco Global Ltd. said, “The market is very good. It will be an under-statement if I say Vietnam is going to rock in next 10 years.” This conviction has encouraged Premco, which has three big factories in India to open a factory in Vietnam as well. “The factory in Vietnam is doing well. The skill set level is very good there and that gives them edge over other countries,” added Dey.

Illies & Co., a leading German-based supplier of all kinds of textile machines to Vietnam, is also impressed with the rapid growth of Vietnamese market. “The response to machines for weaving, dyeing and finishing has been very good at the fair and I must say the demand is going to increase in the years to come,” remarked a confident NGUYEN Huy Thien, Project Manager Textile Machinery, C. Illies & Co.
Despite Bangladesh doing tremendously well, Huy Thien feels Vietnam has an edge as he believes: “We provide better quality machines and that gives us an edge.”
