Even as the Government has fixed the prices of rawhides ahead of the Eid ul Azha, the upcoming 14-day countrywide lockdown could prove to be an impediment towards quick processing of the rawhides, expressed apprehensions the stakeholders.
Reports maintained this while adding that the tannery owners have underlined that consequent to the Government’s decision to keep all the factories closed during this period, it would be difficult to process the rawhide quickly enough to prevent rotting.
The Bangladesh Tanners Association (BTA), following the lockdown announcement, has, reportedly, sought support and permission from various ministers and secretaries concerned to allow them to keep the tanneries open from 23 July to 5 August even as they have also, reportedly, reached out to the Prime Minister’s Private Sector Industry and Investment Adviser, in this regard.
It may be mentioned here that following the recent surge in COVID-19 cases, Bangladesh Government has, reportedly, decided to impose a countrywide lockdown from 23 July in an effort to stem the spread of coronavirus.
