A ship named Songa Cheetah, which is supposed to transport goods to Italy’s Porto di Ravenna on the first direct commercial freight trip from Bangladesh to Europe, reportedly, reached Chittagong Sea Port recently.
Media reports maintained this adding at present, local businesses including the garment exporters who have to send their products to Europe from Chittagong have to do so via ports in other regions on the way even if exporters have to wait for a long time to book ships from those ports, which increases the time and cost of shipping while with the introduction of the direct service, it will save around 50 per cent of the time and money as well.
The ship carrying the Liberian flag docked at the Chittagong Port’s New Mooring Container Terminal-4 on 5 February and is supposed to leave for Europe shortly.
