The newly elected office bearers of the apex garment makers’ body in Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), took over charge from the outgoing committee on 13 April (Tuesday).
The Faruque Hassan-led — Managing director of Giant Group Faruque Hassan is the new BGMEA President — new board of the trade body will be in charge for the term 2021-2023.
In a programme held at the PR and Media cell of BGMEA in capital Dhaka, the outgoing board of directors handed over the responsibility to the new office bearers.
The biennial election of the trade body was held on 4 April, in which Sammilita Parishad led by Faruque won 24 directors’ posts out of 35 even as the opposition panel, Forum, managed to bag 11 posts, while 1,996 members of the trade body out of 2,314, cast their votes this year of which 1,604 votes from Dhaka and 392 from Chittagong were, reportedly, cast in the election.
