
Speakers at a recent event in Dhaka have called for forming Leather Sector Development Authority to ensure the development and smooth supervision of the leather industry in Bangladesh as they feel it is possible for the sector to earn around US $ 10 billion to US $ 12 billion in export from leather sector by 2030.
Media reports maintained this adding, the observations came at a webinar titled ‘An Assessment of the Impact of Covid-19 on Tanneries’, organised jointly by Research and Policy Integration for Development (RAPID), Economic Reporters’ Forum (ERF) and Asia Foundation (AF).
The webinar was attended amongst others by Secretary-Ministry of Industries Zakia Sultana, Additional Secretary-Ministry of Industries Kazi Sakhawat Hossain, Managing Director of Apex Footwear Ltd. Syed Nasim Manzur, Vice Chairman of Bangladesh Tanners Association (BTA) Mizanur Rahman and Executive Director-Bangladesh Labour Foundation AKM Ashraf Uddin.
