
Even as Chittagong Port is, reportedly, staring at a fresh congestion subsequent to piling up of import containers as delivery took a hit in view of the Eid holidays and the COVID-19 lockdown, the BGMEA has called upon its members to unload their imported consignments from the port and transport those to their factories.
Media reports maintained this adding the BGMEA’s notice in this direction was given in accordance with the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA), Freight Forwarders and Shipping Agents’ Association, which further stated that activities of CPA, Dhaka Airport, relevant Customs House, Freight Forwarders, Shipping Agents, Private ICD and all stakeholders will continue despite the lockdown even as it underlined if traders unload their imported goods on time, Chittagong Port will be free of congestion.
The apex garment makers’ body further added it will only help the garment exporters to conduct import and export activities without hassles while calling out to the apparel manufacturers to ship products that are ready for export.
