
In a bid to save time and cost while also underlining that compared to two days from port, six to seven days are taken to get delivery of import consignments from the private inland container depots (ICDs), garment makers’ body, the BGMEA, has called for direct release of import consignments from the Chittagong Port.
Reports maintained this adding that during a recent meeting with Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) Chairman CM Shahjahan, BGMEA President Faruque Hassan made this call even as he, reportedly, maintained that that it takes around six to seven days at present to take delivery from the private ICDs compared to only two days from the port.
The BGMEA President further, reportedly, added the additional delay and higher fees charged by private ICD operators were impacting the apparel industry even as the industry is struggling to make a turnaround from the fallouts of the coronavirus pandemic.
