
Underlining Bangladesh itself is a huge market of leather goods and footwear with further export potentials, Managing Director of Apex Footwear Ltd., Syed Nasim Manzur, stated to ensure desired growth of the leather sector, the Government should provide this sector with facilities similar to those offered to the apparel industry.
Media reports maintained this adding the MD of the Apex Footwear made this observation at a session of the two-day international investment summit organised by the BIDA (Bangladesh Investment Development Authority) even as presenting the keynote titled ‘Step up: Leather, Footwear & Leather Goods from Bangladesh’, at the said session, Syed Nasim Manzur also, reportedly, maintained the country (Bangladesh) has huge prospects of attracting investors to the leather sector as the Government offers a wide range of incentives to leather and leather goods related businesses while underlining 17 types of incentives are provided by the Government to the leather sector, which according to him is an indication of the Government’s interest in the sector.
The session on leather and leather goods, presided over by Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Industries Amir Hossain Amu, was, reportedly, attended amongst others by spokesperson of ‘Leather Naturally’ Dr. Mike Redwood, Managing Director (MD) of Bay Footwear Limited Ziaur Rahman and the MD of Sustainable Leather Foundation Deborah Taylor, and moderated by President of Leather Goods and Footwear Manufacturers & Exporters Association of Bangladesh (LFMEAB) Md. Saiful Islam.
