Underlining it will be difficult to meet the Government-set export target due to the numerous issues faced, garment exporters in Bangladesh have called for the country’s National Board of Revenue’s (NBR) intervention to curb numerous duty issues and harassment faced in importing raw materials and accessories.
As per reports, the garment makers sought NBR’s intervention at a recent meeting with the revenue board while also raising number of issues, including, unrealistic wastage rates for knitwear-making from yarn, missing the export lead time due to raw materials and accessories getting stuck up at port and lengthy supervision by revenue officials of cutting at factories.
The said meeting was, reportedly, attended by the representatives of the country’s two garment makers’ bodies, namely the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) and the Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).
