Bangladesh, on Wednesday, observed the ‘National Textiles Day-2019’ with its theme of ‘globalization of the textiles sector-sustainable development’.
The Ministry of Textiles and Jute undertook elaborate programmes to commemorate the day.
Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and President Md. Abdul Hamid gave separate messages on the eve of the Textiles Day.
“The textiles sector is playing an important role for rural poverty alleviation, women empowerment and employment generation,” maintained President Hamid, adding that after independence, the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had nationalised the textiles and jute sector in an attempt to make the sector a ‘boom’.
Terming textiles as the largest foreign currency earning sector of the country, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, as per the requirement of the 4th industrial revolution, the Jute and Textiles Ministry would have to undertake efforts to patronise the textiles sector and disseminate the textile education as a whole.
The main programme of the day is scheduled to be held at Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) on 9 January 2020 where Prime Minister Hasina will inaugurate the programme as the chief guest.
