Following a recent meeting between the Bangladesh Inland Container Depots Association (BICDA) and Bangladesh Freight Forwarders Association (BAFFA) in Dhaka, private Inland Container Depots (ICDs) have increased by 25 per cent export container handling charge.
Earlier, import container handling charge was raised by 34 per cent.
Reports maintained this while adding this rise will have a retrospective effect, applicable for services availed since 6 August, the day the new fuel prices came into effect even as BICDA had earlier said charges for five types of services, which required the use of diesel, needed to be adjusted for the price of each litre of the fuel being increased from Taka 80 to Taka 114.
The hike effected by ICDs will have an adverse impact on the country’s garment sector, reportedly, claimed the garment makers.
