Hugo Gobbi, the Ambassador of the Argentine Republic to India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and the Maldives, has suggested Bangladesh should go for signing preferential trade agreement (PTA) with the MERCOSUR, which is a trade bloc of Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay, since he said negotiations over a free trade agreement (FTA) might take a longer time.
As per a press note issued by the Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), Hugo Gobbi maintained this during a recent meeting with Claudio Rozencwaig, the Undersecretary of Foreign Policy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Argentina and FBCCI President Md Jashim Uddin.
Rozencwaig, who was leading an Argentine delegation, reportedly, also expressed interest in boosting bilateral relations on all fronts.
At the meeting, the FBCCI President, reportedly, sought support from Argentina to expedite the process of signing an FTA between Bangladesh and the MERCOSUR.
