More than 2,000 workers of Dipta Apparels, located in Shampur area of Savar, took out a protest and demonstrated in front of the factory on Sunday demanding disbursal of June’s salary.
According to media reports, these workers of Dipta Apparels, which has a workforce of around 4,000, took to the streets Sunday morning and subsequently laid siege in front of the factory demanding that the unit should be reopened and their salary for the last month be paid along with bonus for Eid-ul-Azha and wages for the current month.
Earlier on 3 July, the factory authorities reportedly declared closure of the unit till 11 July due to issues related to electricity supply. So, the workers returned to work on Sunday, 12 July, only to reportedly find a notice pasted at the entrance of the unit declaring that the factory is now closed for an indefinite period.
This is what agitated the workers, who then demanded reopening of the unit.
However, according to some labour leaders, the concerned authorities have assured of clearing the dues at the earliest but workers were afraid of losing their jobs as the factory has been closed down for an indefinite period.
