To inoculate their respective workforces, the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association or BKMEA has asked owners of the garment factories to apply for COVID-19 vaccines for the workers.
Reports maintained this adding the BKMEA has advised the factory owners to send applications to the District Commissioner (applicable for Narayanganj District) and to the Civil Surgeons of other districts for the vaccine doses even as a decision was taken in this regard at a virtual meeting held on 8 August, where factory owners and BKMEA board of directors deliberated on the issue of vaccinating the garment workers.
With reference to vaccinating the garment workers, the garment makers’ body (BKMEA) has, reportedly, come up with a five-point recommendation for the apparel factory owners including sending applications to the respective District Commissioner and Civil Surgeons with details of the garment workers.
