Better Cotton Initiative has said that sportswear giant Adidas has sourced more than 40 per cent (43% to be exact) of all its cotton as Better Cotton last year, surpassing the planned target of 40 per cent.
The retailer said in a release issued that this is the highest volume in sustainable cotton it has used in its history. “As a pioneer member, the Adidas Group has been involved with the Better Cotton Initiative from the very beginning.
We will continue to increase the amount of sustainable cotton we use over the coming years,” Frank Henke, Adidas Group VP, Social and Environmental Affairs said.

Furthermore, the retailer has committed to source 100 per cent ‘more sustainable cotton’ across its product categories in all its brands by the year 2018. At present, BCI has over 700 members sourcing and supplying Better Cotton at all stages of the textile supply chain.
Enthralled with the efforts of BCI’s members, Paola Geremicca, BCI Programme Director of Fundraising and Communications averred, “We are very proud of the work we do with our members. Their commitment to BCI is extremely important to us, as it helps support the work of our farmers and drives demand for Better Cotton throughout the supply chain.”
