Arsonists set fire to five ready-made garment (RMG) factories in Ashulia, Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka on Sunday.
The five firms, according to the Fire Service and Civil Defence, included Sinha Textile in the Jirani region, as well as two others owned by the Hamim Group and Bengal.
According to DEPZ Fire Service Senior Station Officer Pranab Chowdhury, they have also heard that unruly people attempted to torch other factories on both sides of the Tongi-Ashulia-EPZ road.
He said members of the Fire Service and Civil Defence could not reach the spots as protesters barred them on the way.
