The United States remains the single biggest country-wise export destination for Bangladesh’s garment products during the July-August 2018 period, according to trade data.
Export Promotion Bureau data shows, Bangladesh exported US $ 1.05 billion worth of apparel items in the first two months of fiscal 2018-19. Further analysis by Bangladesh Apparel News shows that the total knitwear exports to the US fetched US $ 268 million and woven fetched more than double at US $ 785 million.
Germany on the other hand, emerged, as usual the second biggest country-wide destination with over US $ 1.04 billion worth of earnings. Further analysis by Bangladesh Apparel News shows that knitwear fetched US $ 619 million and woven US $ 429 million.
The Great Britain, on the other hand, which is consistently Bangladesh’s third-biggest trading partner, sourced US $ 630 million worth of apparel products during July-August 2018. Further analysis shows, it sourced US $ 351 million in knitwear products and US $ 279 million in woven items.
In the holistic overview, Bangladesh’s apparel exports dropped in August 2018 from what was a flying end to fiscal 2017-18 and the starting month, July, of 2018-19. The country exported apparel items worth US $ 2.71 billion worth in August. Compiled, for the first two months of 2018-19, the total apparel export fetched US $ 5.7 billion – a 3.8 per cent growth.
