
With the thrust on sourcing of apparel, textiles and accessories, the 3-day long International Sourcing Expo Australia has begun at Melbourne Exhibition Centre. Around 65 garment and accessories exporters from India are showcasing their products at the fair which is co-located with the China Clothing & Textiles Expo. The event is Australia’s major trade expo destination is witnessing around 450 exporters major textile and apparel countries across the world. More than 3,000 buyers have registered for the show compared to 2,600 last year. There are 20 categories in which various exporters are displaying their products and in womenswear category.

Manika Jain, Consul General of India, while inaugurating the India Pavilion at the show insisted that Indian exporters have to be more competitive when it comes to quality and pricing to increase their share in US $ 6-billion Australian market. As of now, China is dominating apparel export to Australia while India’s share is only 3 per cent. “Indian exporters should do value addition to their products and focus on branding, thus creating a niche for their items in the Australian market,” she said.
It has been observed that Indian apparel exporters have improved the quality of their products and they are in sync with Australian fashion and taste, over the course of time. Manika further averred, “Indian companies which have participated in the fair so far have gained considerable and valuable insights into the Australian market.”
Australia is one such market which has great potential for Indian apparel export as in the last few years, Australian interest in the Indian products has increased. Ajay Sahai, DG, Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) says, “Exporters want to explore new markets like Australia, amidst the demand slowdown in the European market.”

FIEO, is participating at the exhibition for the second time. A.G. Enterprises, Jajandhar, Abhivyakti Fashions, Noida, Accessorize India, Delhi, Affordable Exports, Delhi and Anjali Exports, Jaipur are some of the Indian exporters that are showcasing their innovations at the event.
