Indian Technical Textile Association (ITTA), which promotes, supports, develops and increases production, consumption and export of technical textiles to make India a powerhouse in this segment, recently held its third ITTA-Defence Exhibition and Conference in New Delhi, India.
The theme of the event was “Indigenization and Provision of Improved Products to Our Soldiers”, which will help the Army get their requirements at affordable prices. Army is trying to move with the indigenize items by involving the private sector in addition to the Defence Public Sector Undertakings.
Present at the event, Army Chief Gen. Bipin Rawat said, “Indian armed forces must fight the next war with indigenous solutions. There is huge budget with the Army that has been spent on textiles. It is high time that we look for indigenous solutions.”

At the two-day event, around 40 participants displayed personal and protective clothing, geotextiles and medical textiles products. Items like special snow socks, HAPO chambers, snow goggles, thermal insoles and ruck sacks being used in Siachen Glacier and other super high altitude areas were also showcased.
Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani, who inaugurated the event, said National Textile Corporation will have a specialized facility to develop clothes and other gear for the armed forces. She also felt the need of cohesive alignment of cooperation between the industry and forces.
