
Even as the so-called second wave of the dreaded coronavirus pandemic is said to have intensified in Bangladesh with increasing number of fresh cases reported everyday which have led the Government to impose certain curbs to prevent further spread of the contagion, the election for the apex garment makers body in Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), is scheduled to be held on 4 April (Sunday).
The BGMEA election apart, the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) election is also, reportedly, scheduled to be held on 5 May.
According to media reports, questions have now been raised pertaining to holding the elections at a time when the second wave of the pandemic is said to be intensifying in the country that had forced to Government to put various restrictions.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, a senior business leader on condition of anonymity, reportedly, underlined that FBCCI has unofficially decided to call off the polls though there has been no formal declaration yet to this end while Shah Alam, Additional Secretary (Health Education) of Health Ministry, on his part, reportedly, expressed hope that the business groups would take the right steps regarding their respective elections so that the situation does not deteriorate, while adding that everyone will have to strictly follow the health code the Government has announced.
