According to the Minister of Textiles and Jute Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Bangladesh aims to increase its exports of RMG commodities and goods made of jute to Russia. He referred to Russia as Bangladesh’s valuable friend.
The minister stated that Russia has pledged to consistently support Bangladesh’s economic growth. The government is eager to increase Bangladesh’s exports of ready-made garments (RMG) and jute-made goods to Russia, the minister added.
Nanak emphasised the potential of the Russian market for Bangladeshi products after meeting with Alexander V. Mantytskiy, the Russian ambassador to Bangladesh. He also emphasised Russia’s historical support and ongoing cooperation in various industries since Bangladesh’s Liberation War. Nanak acknowledged the contribution of Russia to the development of Bangladesh and congratulated President Vladimir Putin on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s two consecutive terms in office. He also mentioned Russia’s assistance in building the nuclear power station in Ruppur as an example of bilateral collaboration.
Emphasising the ministry’s focus on jute and jute-made goods exports, Nanak disclosed discussions regarding organising a trade fair between the two nations to enhance economic ties.
He expressed optimism about potential Russian investments in Bangladesh’s jute sector as discussions with Russian trading representative’s progress.
Strengthening economic ties is important, and the Russian envoy echoed this sentiment, pointing out that Russia is interested in importing ready-made garments, tobacco, agricultural products, leather, jute, and jute-made goods from Bangladesh, even as it looks to take advantage of the opportunity presented by the exit of large companies from its market.
The desire to expand economic cooperation was acknowledged by both parties.
Participants in the conference included representatives from the Russian Embassy and the Ministry of Textiles and Jute, indicating a cooperative effort to investigate and improve commercial connections between Bangladesh and Russia.
