Bangladesh and Switzerland have taken a significant step forward in their economic partnership as the Chattogram Port Authority and Medlog Bangladesh, a subsidiary of the Swiss logistics giant, signed a concession agreement for the Pangaon Inland Container Terminal (ICT). The ceremony was attended by Reto Ringli, the Ambassador of Switzerland to Bangladesh.
Medlog, a global player in logistics and supply-chain management, specialises in intermodal transportation and operates across more than 80 countries. Its extensive infrastructure includes warehouses, inland depots, cold storage facilities, truck fleets, locomotives and barges, enabling seamless multimodal cargo movement.
Ambassador Ringli emphasised the strategic value of the agreement, noting that Medlog’s commencement of operations in Bangladesh came just a week after another Swiss company inaugurated a production facility in one of the country’s special economic zones. He said this demonstrated that Swiss direct investment in Bangladesh was diverse, robust and expanding rapidly. He added that growing interest from Swiss firms would further deepen bilateral economic ties while opening new opportunities in Bangladesh’s logistics, transportation and industrial sectors.
The Pangaon ICT concession is seen as an important milestone in boosting Bangladesh’s inland container handling capacity and improving trade logistics. Industry observers believe that the involvement of a global leader such as Medlog will enhance the nation’s supply-chain infrastructure, benefiting key export-oriented industries, including textiles, by reducing transit times and increasing operational efficiency.
Bangladesh continues to strengthen its position as an attractive investment destination for Swiss companies, reflecting rising confidence in the country’s economic outlook and business-friendly environment.
