The state-owned Sylhet Gas Fields Limited (SGFL) found gas reserves in another well on Friday. There is a good chance that 21 million cubic feet (cft) of gas will be introduced to the national grid in the next three months.
In the previous seven months, four gas-filled wells have been found. According to SGFL authorities, extraction is still underway in the recently opened Kailashtila well-8, and full-scale extraction will start in the following three months.
About Taka 1,620 crore is the estimated value of the well’s 25,040 billion cubic feet of gas resource.
A processing plant is located 2.5 kilometres from the new well, and pipelines are already in place within 1.5 kilometres of it, virtually guaranteeing the well’s successful commercial use within three months.
January of last year marked the beginning of Bapex’s well-drilling operation, which was finished on 4th May.
Currently, the national grid receives 100 million cubic feet of gas per day from SGFL-operated wells; upon completion of construction on a few more wells, this amount is anticipated to increase to 150 million cubic feet per day.
250 million cubic feet of gas per day from Sylhet wells would be added to the national grid if all construction is finished by year’s end.
