In what is seen as a move that would further bolster trade between Bangladesh and India, mgX (India and Bangladesh), a sister concern of the MGH Group, has decided to run a weekly train with 60 TEUs between Majerhat (West Bengal) in India and Benapole, in Bangladesh, according to media reports.
The train will leave Majerhat on Saturday and reach Benapole on Sunday with a transit time of less than 12 hours, which significantly cuts the transportation time compared to that of 10-12 days by Petrapole land port and 30 days of transit time via sea.
As per a press communique issued by the company, the second instalment – a 15-wagon train with 30 containers carrying textile, raw materials and FMCG goods – was conducted recently.
The train carrying the shipment reached Benapole on Thursday morning.
It may be mentioned here that facilitated by mgX, CONCOR has operated the first container train that left CONCOR’s terminal at Majerhat in West Bengal on 25 July and reached Benapole the next day.
In the first shipment of its kind, mgX carried goods of Vardhman Textiles, Procter & Gamble India Ltd. and Arvind Textiles in 50 side open containers from their respective production units in India to Benapole, as part of end-to-end transport solution service.
