
Recently, a momentous meeting transpired in Canberra, Australia, bringing together the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI).
Leading the BGMEA delegation was its President, Faruque Hassan, while the ACCI was represented by their Chief Executive Officer, Andrew McKellar, and Head of Business Development and International Affairs, Chris Bames.
The meeting was graced by the presence of the Bangladesh High Commissioner to Australia, M Allama Siddiki. Also in attendance were other notable figures, including BGMEA Vice President Shahidullah Azim, Director Asif Ashraf, Chair of BGMEA Standing Committee on Press, Publication, and Publicity, Shovon Islam, Chair of BGMEA Standing Committee on Foreign Mission Cell, Shams Mahmud, and CEO of HSBC Bangladesh, Md Mahbub ur Rahman.
The discussions during the meeting encompassed various topics, such as exploring investment opportunities, potential partnerships, and joint ventures. They also delved into the policy support provided by Governments to facilitate trade and investment.
A press release issued in this direction highlighted the parties explored ways to foster collaboration and identify promising areas of trade and investment to benefit mutually from the opportunities.
An important aspect emphasised during the meeting was the need to strengthen industry connections between the businessmen of Australia and Bangladesh to further bolster bilateral trade. Both parties expressed eagerness to collaborate and bring traders from both countries together.
