
The premier seaport of Bangladesh, Chittagong Port, is reportedly staring at a fresh congestion subsequent to piling up of import containers as delivery took a hit in view of the Eid holidays and the COVID-19 lockdown imposed by the Government.
Media reports maintained this while adding that as manufacturing units are closed in view of the countrywide lockdown, importers have, reportedly, maintained that they were unable to receive the import consignments even as the Chairman of the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA), in view of the existing situation, has, reportedly, requested the Shipping Secretary that necessary steps be taken to convince the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to allow shifting of all types of import containers for the next two months, to the 19 private inland container depots (ICDs) while also arrange their delivery from there.
The CPA Chairman further, reportedly, claimed if delivery does not pick up, the operational activities of the Chittagong Port would come to a halt in the next few days, as per the reports.
