
The Japan External Trade Organization or JETRO and the BGMEA, which is the apex body of Bangladesh garment makers, have shown willingness to collaborate to expand trade between Bangladesh and Japan even as both the countries will celebrate 50 years of their diplomatic relations next year.
Media reports maintained this while adding the willingness between the two entities to collaborate in this direction follows a recent meeting between JETRO delegation and the BGMEA President.
It may be mentioned here JETRO works towards promoting mutual trade and investment between Japan and the rest of the world.
The JETRO delegation, reportedly, comprised its Country Representative Yuji Ando, Senior Director at JETRO Dhaka SM Shariful Alam, South Asian regional representative of Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and Director of JETRO New Delhi Takuma Otaki and JETRO Representative Kazunori Yamada even as BGMEA President Faruque Hassan was joined by BGMEA Vice-President (Finance) Khandoker Rafiqul Islam, Vice-President Shahidullah Azim and Director Md Imranur Rahman, in the meeting.
During the said meeting, both the sides, reportedly, discussed possible avenues of expanding mutual trade even as the JETRO delegation and BGMEA leaders expressed willingness to organise a webinar to initiate communication between entrepreneurs in Japan and Bangladesh, especially those involved in the fashion industry while underlining that Japanese buyers and investors will get opportunity to explore their trade potential in Bangladesh through the same even as Bangladeshi businessmen will be able to showcase their strengths and capabilities through the webinar even if both the sides also held discussions pertaining to possible Free Trade Agreements (FTAs).
