Japan has proposed setting up an industrial hub in Bangladesh by developing a port and transport in the region, with supply chains to India’s landlocked north-eastern states as well Bhutan, Nepal and beyond.
Reports claimed this while adding Japan’s proposal to this end comes following the visit of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida to India last month even as he touted the idea of a new industrial hub for the Bay of Bengal and northeast India that could bolster development in this region that is home to 300 million people.
Speaking on the same, Japan’s Ambassador to India Hiroshi Suzuki reportedly maintained the deep seaport (in the Matarbari area), which was likely to become operational by 2027, will be key to building an industrial hub connecting Dhaka to landlocked areas of India while adding it can be a win-win plan for both Bangladesh and India.
