Bangalore based Integra Apparels, a division of Morarjee Textiles Ltd. (owned by Ashok Piramal Group), is looking at establishing a manufacturing base in Bangladesh. “We are looking at setting up our garmenting unit in Bangladesh as the garmenting industry is very labour centric and labour availability in Bangalore is shrinking drastically, so it is no more viable to have a manufacturing base in the city,” confides Santhosh Bandari Yadav, Deputy General Manager, Integra.
The company is looking at setting up a 3000 sewing machine set-up in Bangladesh. Presently Integra has two units in Bangalore with a combined capacity of 2100 machines. Nagpur could be another option for the company as Morarjee’s weaving, processing and printing unit are in the city. “We have to seek more competitive manufacturing options if we want to grow and we hope to finalize the destination and infrastructure details in the next few months,” says Yadav.
With a present turnover of Rs. 130 crore/annum, Integra is primarily producing woven shirts and bottoms – for men’s, ladies and children and is catering to high-end buyers namely Tom Tailor, Esprit, Dockers, Marc O’ Polo, Ben Sherman, Jlo by Jennifer Lopez, Flex Industries Japan, Iceberg, Newman to mention a few.
