According to media reports, the Adani Group of India has recently submitted a fresh proposal to export an additional 1,600 MW of electricity to Bangladesh even as what makes this proposal significant is that the entire amount of electricity will be sourced from renewable sources, with 1,000 MW coming from solar power and the remaining 600 MW from hydropower.
It’s worth noting that Adani Group is already exporting 1,600 MW of electricity from its Godda power plant, specifically established for Bangladesh in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand under a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) while the new proposal was presented during a recent visit to Dhaka by Gautam Adani, the head of Adani Group, who paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
As part of this proposal, Adani Group intends to source 600 MW of hydropower from Nepal, where they plan to set up a plant while the remaining 1,000 MW of solar power will be generated in India, where Adani is actively establishing renewable energy plants.
The news has been received positively, with sources stating that Adani Group’s proposal has received a green signal.
This initiative aligns with the Government’s plan to increase its share of renewable energy to 40 per cent of the total power generation by 2041, a time when Bangladesh aims to enhance its generation capacity to 60,000 MW.
