This, the Industries Minister said while addressing journalists after visiting the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) Tannery Estate at Hemayetpur of Savar, recently.

“Gas and electricity supply will be suspended from January 1, 2017 to those factories which fail to meet the deadline,” reportedly warned the Minister.
Tanneries in Hazaribagh have been urged repeatedly over the past few years to shift to the Leather Industrial City in Savar on the outskirts of Dhaka for the hazards they pose to human health and environment.

It may be mentioned here that despite Bangladesh Government’s initiative to provide various facilities at Savar, the uncalled-for delay by Hazaribagh tanners to shift their tanneries has reportedly also irked the country’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina. She averred that quicker the tannery owners relocate their factories the faster the environment of Hazaribagh and adjacent areas will improve.
