The Managing Director of Giant Group Faruque Hassan has been appointed as the honorary Consul General of Greece to Bangladesh recently.
Hassan, who served as the elected Director the BGMEA for two consecutive terms (2001-2002, 2003-2004), Vice-President for another two consecutive terms (from 2009-2010, 2011-2012) and as Senior Vice-President from September 22, 2015 to till date, is a renowned name in the Bangladesh garment sector.
The President of Dutch Bangla Chamber of Commerce and Industry and co-chair of the steering committee of Partnership for Cleaner Textile project (PACT – jointly implemented by International Finance Corporation and BGMEA), Hassan is well-known as an astute business personality who is said to have played a pivotal role in popularising the concept of sustainability in the country’s apparel sector.
A visionary in own rights, Hassan in an earlier interview with Apparel Resources, underlined how important it is for the sector to move towards value-addition and product diversification, if it is to remain relevant in the global perspective.
“There’s hardly any margin in basics these days…From April next year, we would be in a position to offer some new products to our existing and new clients,” stated Hassan, who given his experience and understanding of the RMG sector has shortlisted two hot-selling products of activewear and lingerie to start the endeavour of product diversification in Giant Group.
It may be mentioned here that apart from serving as the Vice-President of the French Chamber and his involvement in the German and Switzerland chambers in Bangladesh, Hassan is also a member of the steering committee of WRG 2030 (World Bank Group), which works in the field of cleaner water and sanitization for the community.
