With the aim to cope with potential trade expansion and draw more foreign investors in Bangladesh, the FBCCI or Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry sought capacity building of Chittagong Port while also facilitating faster cargo transport.
As per reports, the FBCCI came up with the observations during the first meeting of the FBCCI Standing Committee on Ports and Shipping at FBCCI’s Dhaka office with the FBCCI President Md. Jashim Uddin calling for increasing the capacity of the port and speeding up haulage as prospects of trade expansion are foreseen.
The FBCCI President while underlining at least 5.0 per cent of cost of doing business could be reduced if the capacity of Chittagong Port is enhanced, urged the FBCCI standing committee on Ports and Shipping to find short-, medium- and long-term solutions by identifying the problems regarding the country’s principal sea port, which handles bulk of imports and exports including apparel shipments.
