Even as the demand for synthetic dresses is rising globally — according to a survey, demand for synthetic dresses has jumped from 70.5 to 72.3 per cent in the last decade — and demand for cotton apparels, reportedly, on the wane, experts have called for more focus towards making synthetic garments.
Media reports claimed this citing industry people.
Speaking to the media, Md. Shahidullah Azim, the former Vice-President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), reportedly, claimed that earning from synthetic dress is three times than those made from cotton even as industry insiders, reportedly, stated that the industry has to build capacities to effectively cater to the globally growing demand for synthetic garments.
Further, economists have, reportedly, advocated for foreign investment in the sector while also underlining that overseas players should be encouraged to set up relevant industries in the economic zones so as to encourage and give a boost to production of synthetic dresses.
