Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has directed its member industries to ensure group insurance for the workers or face restriction on exports and other facilities. Also, the body may cancel the membership if any enterprise denies insurance scheme even after getting extended time for paying instalments. Atiqul Islam, President, BGMEA said that the association is keeping secured working atmosphere and workers’ safety on top priority. He added, “Those who are non-compliant with the direction would be spared from all kind of facilities BGMEA provides.”
In general, under the insurance scheme, family of a deceased worker would receive BDT 2 lakh and a injured worker would get BDT 50 thousand to BDT 1 lakh.
