Mumbai, the fashion capital of India and one of the major hubs of domestic manufacturing, is now also making a noteworthy contribution to apparel exports. With the domestic market already generating good business and the export sector also picking up, more and more domestic players in the region are entering into the export arena.
Among the new names is R J Fashion, offering 100 per cent men’s casual shirts (Richberry Brand). This 11 years old company has a good reach in the domestic scenario and now its thrust is on the European market. Explaining the move towards exports, Vikas Shah, Owner of the company revealed to Apparel Online that India is strong in fashion and it is also the strength of our company. Further, we can handle any quantity as per the buyer’s comfort; we are new in the export market but our quality and working system is similar to exports, so we are targeting the European market as Europe offers better prices and is more fashion-driven.
Vikas further added, “We have studied this market and observed that denim and over dyed shirts are in demand, so we have worked accordingly. Apart from that, recently we participated in international apparel fair and got four serious buyers from Sri Lanka, Israel, Spain and Bulgaria. So we are hopeful to deliver our first shipment in coming months.” To cater to the increasing demand, the company is also increasing its manufacturing; as of now it is producing 10,000 pieces per month and is looking to double the capacity in the next 6 months.
One more company from Mumbai, which is following the same track is Naught Kids and has experience of indirect export. The company with over a decade experience is having expertise in girls’ wear in the domestic sector and is now shifting focus to exports. Bhavesh Jain, Proprietor of the firm shared, “We were planning the move since the last 2 years and now is the right time to enter into exports as it is picking up again. We already export with the help of merchant exporters to Dubai and few other countries, but now we are entering into direct exports. Apart from Gulf countries, we are also targeting Europe.”
