Even as Bangladesh entered a 7-day countrywide lockdown from 5 April 2021 (Monday), the garment manufacturing units will, reportedly, remain open.
Media reports maintained this citing the President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), Dr. Rubana Huq.
Interacting with the media, the BGMEA President, reportedly, stated that the garment manufacturing units will remain open, complying with all the directives issued by the Government in this direction while also ensuring maintenance of social distancing to prevent workers from being infected by coronavirus.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, former President of BGMEA and Vice-President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), Siddiqur Rahman, reportedly, said that the RMG sector and the export sector were outside the purview of lockdowns even last year even as President of the Exporters Association of Bangladesh (EAB) and former President of the BGMEA, Abdus Salam Murshedy, on his part, reportedly, stated that garment workers were safer inside the factories compared to outside.
We will be more careful than we were before about following the hygiene rules, reportedly, added further the EAB President.
