In response to the nationwide unrest surrounding the recent quota-reform movement, representatives of numerous international brands and retail outlets stated that they would not cancel any buy orders for ready-made garments (RMG) from Bangladesh for delayed deliveries.
Additionally, they urged the regional RMG exporters to make sure that RMG goods are shipped on schedule.
These remarks were made by the delegates at a meeting at the Uttara office of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) with its president, SM Mannan Kochi.
After the meeting, SM Mannan Kochi said, “Global buyers’ forum has assured us that they won’t cancel RMG buy order from Bangladesh. We have presented the current situation of the country to the buyers’ forum.”
Kochi said, “We have shared our measures to keep the RMG production and supply chain with the buyers. We have been observing the overall situation including ports, central banks and NBR and assured them that we are taking the initiative to resolve the issues.
A lot of RMG production, export, and marketing have been affected during the unwanted five days. “Our factories have been affected financially and our supply chain has been disrupted,” he added.
The president of the BGMEA reported that the government has been persuaded to expedite the loading and unloading processes at seaports and land ports while guaranteeing that importers and exporters will not be required to pay demurrage at any port due to unanticipated delays in consignment loading and unloading.
