Considering that around 30 per cent of skins collected from sacrificial animals are wasted annually due to improper skinning and environmental protection, the Commerce Ministry of Bangladesh has called upon people to take care and rightly skin the sacrificial animals and thereby help contribute to the country’s economy.
The Commerce Ministry stated skins of sacrificial animals is important resource for the leather industry of the country and around 50-60 per cent of the raw material is collected during the Eid-ul-Azha, adding as such proper care needs to be taken while skinning the sacrificial animals to prevent loss of rawhides.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) has reportedly ensured that there is no shortage of salt – needed to preserve and process rawhides of sacrificial animals – and there’s enough stock to take care of overall demand for salt for the next 7-8 months even after processing and preservation of rawhides.
